Do I need a referral to see a doctor at the Nix Senior Health Care Center?
We are able to schedule appointments directly, but also welcome referrals from other physicians.
Does TriCare cover visits to your office?
Yes. We also accept Medicare and other types of insurance.
Does Secure Horizons cover visits to your office?
Unfortunately, Secure Horizons does not cover visits to our office.
Can I keep my other doctors?
Our geriatricians provide primary medical care. For patients whose physicians are subspecialists such as cardiologist and oncologists, we provide coordinated primary geriatric care.
We will also serve as memory loss consultants at the request of your primary care physician.
Will I always see the same doctor?
Yes. Patients receiving their primary care at the office have their ongoing care provided by one geriatrician. The Center is a group practice, and other physicians are available for urgent visits. Occasionally physicians in training will participate in the office visit experience.
How do I reach the doctor or other health care provider for a new problem?
We are available for same day appointments until 2:00PM. Call 568-5600 to set up an appointment.
What if I need emergency care?
Call the office number at 568-5600 to speak to the geritrician on call or visit the 24 hour Riverwalk Clinic located on the first floor of the Nix Hospital. When visiting the Riverwalk Clinic identify yourself as a patient of the Nix Senior Healthcare Center.
Do the Nix Senior Health Care Center doctors make home visits?
We occasionally visit our well established patients at home.
Do you have someone on staff who can assist an older relative or friend obtain care?
We have a social worker available once a week during regular clinic hours to offer this assistance.
Do you have a list of people who will come into the home to help with housekeeping and personal care?
We assist our patients and their families in locating appropriate services in the San Antonio metropolitan area.
